Winter Skin-Saving Coffee Scrub

Good morning and happy weekend! January is finally coming to a close, though we are still in the thick of winter (unfortunately). And while all of this phenomenal restaurant week food has been of taking care of my insides, my skin has been feeling a bit less-than-stellar lately. Enter, Coffee Scrub from Duross & Langel.

Now, I do enjoy a good coffee, in all of its various incarnations, though I had never thought to use it as skincare before. Luckily, the kind folks at Philly's premiere handmade, natural skincare shop showed me the light. Or rather, had me wake up and smell the coffee. (I'm sorry, I just had to.)

After speaking with a very knowledgeable member of their team, I learned about the benefits of using a coffee-based scrub at home - particularly at this time of year. Not only do the coffee grounds gently exfoliate those rough patches we're prone to in the colder months, the caffeine content helps to brighten and tighten the skin. Aka, bye-bye winter dullness. Of course it's an added bonus that it smells rich and fantastic. Unless of course, you don't like the smell of coffee. In which case we can't be friends. Just kidding. Kind of.

Ps, you can totally DIY this at home, too. Simply combine 1/2 cup of coffee grounds, 3 tablespoons of coconut oil and 1 tablespoon of raw sugar - et voila! I've also heard this mix does wonders on cellulite too, but of course I wouldn't know anything about that. Kidding again. Kind of. I'm gonna stop now. But you shouldn't. You should go out and get scrubbin'! Happy weekend. x

Looks to Try: The Glitter Beard

Being that it's just 2 weeks til Christmas Day (WHAT?!) we are in full swing for party mode. Everyone and their brother has plans this weekend - office party, white elephant, secret santa, cookie exchange, you name it! So I figured what better time than the present to share with you a little holiday party outfit advice.

Surely by now you've heard of the genius that is The Gay Beards. If you haven't, allow me to introduce you - you can check out their hilarious youtube channel HERE. They are the queens who inspired this look with their iconic #GlitterBeard. Yes folks, that's right. Glitter. In my beard. What is more festive than that? Truly, I am hard-pressed to find an answer.

I'm wearing a David Beckham for H&M sweater in a festive red and charcoal color block motif, and paired it with a silver glitter beard (you know, to give off a Santa vibe.) There truly isn't much to say here, so I'll let the photos do the talking. Presenting, Glitterbeard: A Christmas Story for the Ages.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go find a way to remove this from my face. Merry Xmas, y'all! X

My New Skincare Routine

Hello and happy Cyber Monday! Honestly, thank goodness for today. If I had to go back to the weekly grind without the lure of online shopping today, I don't know if I could make it through. In honor of the holiday, and one of my favorite topics, I wanted to share with you my devotion to Baxter of California.

Our love affair began back when I attended the Men's Clarisonic Launch at their Barber Shop in LA back in the summer. It started with their oil free moisturizer, moved onto their aluminum-free deodorant, and before you can say "Baxter-Finley" I was hooked. Since then, I've adapted to their full line of products (which includes skincare, haircare, and shaving essentials.)

One thing I adore about Baxter's products (besides their signature spicy scent) is their tried and true history. Beginning in 1965 with a simple conditioner to protect against the California sun & sea, the brand has used its science-meets-nature philosophy to expand into a men's grooming powerhouse. And I'm here for it. Hook, line & sinker.

Want to give some of these great finds a try? They make a gift set for anything you (or your man) may need. Shaving? You got it. Travel? Check. A little bit of everything? Say the word. So head on over to their site and order today - act fast, everything is 25% off through the end of the day! If that won't sell you, I don't know what will. Cyber away!

Clarisonic Alpha Fit Launch

Hey Gang! I hope your weeks are all off to a great start. Mine has already been super busy, and it's only Tuesday - it has me reminiscing about last week. And no wonder, because last week I had the opportunity to go to the Clarisonic Alpha Fit Launch at Baxter Finley Barber Shop

Now, if you've been following along... you know I'm a fan of my Clarisonic Mia 2. I even wrote about its crucial role in my beard maintenance regimen here. But what's so exciting about the Alpha Fit launch, is that it's the brand's first product created exclusively for us fellas - especially of the bearded variety.

Here's Clarisonic founder (and former world-class AIDS research scientist) Dr. Robb, talking about the patented technology and process that went into their new handle-less design. The Alpha Fit has two easy to use settings - one for prepping to shave, and one for cleaning and softening your already existing beard.

I have to say, one of my favorite aspects of the Clarisonic technology, is that it is a seamless addition into your already existing skincare regimen, just continue to use the great products you already know and love. What's that you say? You want some suggestions for new Fall skincare?? Good thing Baxter of California has got us covered. (More on them later.)

Of course, another one of my favorite aspects of the Alpha Fit is the hashtag they created to promote the product: ITSYOURF-INGFACE. Gloriously spelled out here entirely made from Clarisonic brush heads. I mean. What more is there to say? Except - fellas, stop sneaking your girlfriend's (sister's/mom's/roommate's) Mia, and get your own Alpha Fit! Go ahead, I'll wait. You can thank me later. x

MOG Gets Gloss-y

Happy Saturday, cool kids! I wanted to share with you some new favorites of mine from the it-girl skincare brand, Glossier. Now, it's no secret that I was already a fan. In fact, my love affair with them began months ago - when their dual masks were March's #MASKOFTHEMONTH. (Click here for that post!)

But, as luck would have it, Emily Weiss and the Glossier girls were having a popup shop here in LA at the Santa Monica NastyGal store. Naturally, I had to be there.

In short, it was a dream. Great branding + Good Skincare + Chic Females = match made in MOG heaven. Added bonus: their all-pink packaging fits in perfect with this week's theme! I made sure to pick up a few new things to share with you all today.

First - their delicious, creamy, Priming Moisturizer. So hydrating, but not at all greasy - it'll easily integrate into any skincare routine you already have. Follow it up with their Perfecting Skin Tint - the PERFECT shear wash of color that just evens out your skintone, without clogging pores. Enriched with diamond powder, it provides the most dreamy, summery glow. Yum.

If you're in LA - I highly advise heading to Santa Monica this weekend for some fun-in-the-sun with a side of skincare. And if you're not in LA, head to to snag these products - and more! And PS, if you haven't yet - don't forget to Subscribe to our YouTube channel for your chance to win our giveaway! Winner announced when our new video drops tomorrow! Good luck! xx

La Vie En Rose: DIY Rosewater Toner

Hey friends! By now you may have seen our #MOGiveaway - and if you haven't - click HERE to enter, by subscribing to our Youtube channel. This week, we're sharing with you La Vie En Rose. Every day, a new one my rose-colored picks - guaranteed to keep you tickled pink as we kick off the month of June!

Today, I'm sharing with you my super simple Rosewater Toner Spray. This stuff is amazing. Not only does it mattify your skin in these less-than-glam hot summer days, it also keeps your makeup in place. Oh, and it smells heavenly too. Sound too good to be true? It's not. Read on for how to make some of your very own!

To make this delicious concoction - simply combine 2 oz distilled water, 1.5 oz rosewater (find it in the ethnic food aisle of the grocery store), and .5 oz witch hazel. Give everything a nice stir, and pour into an atomizer bottle. Pro tip: leave it in the fridge for an even more refreshing spritz. I like to spray it on when I'm finished beating my mug for the day, after some time in the sun, or when I simply need a little pick-me-up.

So get out there and give this a try! I promise, you won't regret it. Who wouldn't want to smell like a delicious fresh bouquet in the heat? It's sure as hell nicer than smelling like a sweatball. Amirite, ladies?? Be sure to check back tomorrow for our next pick in the Vie en Rose week, here on MOG.

Friday is finally here! And since this weekend marks the end of May, it's long since due that I share with you my pick for #MASKOFTHEMONTH. Everyone knows April showers bring May flowers - and that's why this month, I'm loving Mario Badescu's Flower & Tonic Mask.

Oiliness? Redness? Puffiness? This thing does it all - and at a bargain, no less! Check me out looking a fool and trying this mask out in the video below!

Liked what you saw? Click HERE to buy the Mario Badescu Flower & Tonic Mask. Want to see my previous #MASKOFTHEMONTH posts? April's Spring Cleaning Detox Mask, and March's Combination Skin Dual Masks. Be sure to check back this weekend for an announcement you won't wanna miss - and next week for another MOG-themed week!

The Best Sunscreen for Your Face

Hey everyone! I hope your weeks are all off to a good start. Though doesn't it feel like it should be Thursday already? Isn't that always the case when you're counting down to a long weekend?? Only 3 days til Friday, y'all!

For part 2 in our summer kickoff series, I wanted to share with you my absolute favorite facial sunscreen. Now, if you've been living under a rock, or didn't already know, you should be wearing spf every day. But with the holiday weekend coming up, you're sure to spend a lot of time in the sun - and for many of us, this will be the first real sun exposure we've had in months! (Not those of us in LA, mind you. But I didn't want to make you jealous.)

Enter Kiehl's Superfluid Sunscreen. This little beauty packs an SPF of 50+ and feels silky smooth going onto your face. It's fast-absorbing, and doesn't leave that sticky, tacky feel that other sunscreens tend to do. I wear it daily, but put on a little more when I know I'm spending a day in the sun. Give it a try this weekend, and I know I'll make a believer out of you!

As always, check back every day this week for some new and exciting ways to start your summer off right, and we'll see you tomorrow with the next installment in our Summer Kickoff Series

How to Contour Your Face. Like a Man.

TGIF. The weekend is finally here. And to kick it off right - I thought I'd share with you a little something funny that Nick & I have been working on the last couple days. Introducing our first-ever Vlog.

Ever wanted to know how to straighten out your crooked nose? Give yourself the cheekbones of a supermodel? Or (like me) downplay your Rihanna-sized forehead? Enter the magic of Contour. I guess the jig is up here - my skin isn't really so flawless. But you knew that, right?

Either way. Check out this little video below and let us know what you think. You can subscribe to our YouTube page, and find our new videos, which we plan to post each week!

Products used include Murad Invisiblur Perfecting Shield, Dermalogica Sheer Tint, Smashbox Step-by-Step Contour Trio, Laura Mercier Radiance Primer, and Urban Decay All-Nighter Setting Spray. (Click each name for a link to buy!)

I hope you all liked this silly little vid - and I can't wait for you to see what else we have in store! Comment below and let me know what you liked, what I can do to improve, or just to tell me how hilarious and adorable I am. Better yet. Do it on YouTube. Or both. Happy Friday!

Palm Springs Packing Guide, Part 2

All I can say is AHH... I'm one day into my vacation here at the ACE Palm Springs, and I can't even picture city living at this point. Don't make me go back. Seriously. As promised, here's part 2 of my Palm Springs packing guide: beauty & Skincare edition.

I like a light and clean fragrance on hot desert days, so in my book, nothing beats Elizabeth and James Nirvana White. A crisp blend of peony and light musk - it smells familiar, but unique. I love it. (Truth be told, I wear this every day... I just appreciate it even more here in the desert.) Side note: Nick wears Nirvana Black which is the sister fragrance to mine, and has a darker, slightly richer scent. Each fantastic on their own, but when worn together, it's Nirvana. (Sorry, had to.)

I've also been wearing the Murad INVISIBlur Primer + SPF 30 - I've been using ever since I received it as a freebie in my gift bag at SimplyStylist last month. And let me tell you something - Miracle it is. As a primer, its truly the perfect silky smooth base for whatever makeup you are wearing (or not). And as an SPF - it's got enough coverage to make your dermatologist happy, and the airbrushed finish will make you happy too! Trust.

now, One of my absolute essentials when I know I'll be spending a lot of time in the heat is Kiehl's Oil Control Shine Eliminator. it's like that amazing feeling you get when you open the freezer and stick your head in on a really hot day. (Am I the only one who did this as a child? and/or to this day??) Regardless, this stuff is super cool and refreshing, and helps keep the dewiness at bay.

And if you happen to Have a little too much fun in the sun? Enter the Peter Thomas Roth Cucumber Gel Mask. Formulated to be used as either a mask, or a long term moisturizer - it can also be put in the refrigerator for an extra-refreshing treat. yum.

Lastly, after a long few days spent in the pool, in the sun, and with (ahem) several Cocktails... your hair can feel a little blah. Kiehl's Strengthening and Hydrating Oil-In-Cream to the rescue! Chock full of hair-healthy oils like avocado and olive, I'd probably spread this on toast if it were edible, tbh.

There you have it. Next time you take a trip to Palm Springs - or any hot weather destination - be sure to give some of these a try. I promise they'll come in handy. (You can thank me later.) Be sure to check back tomorrow for an ACE Hotel original #THIRSTYTHURSDAY! Speaking of, I'm off to order another Jalapeño margarita. Pool boy?

Now that spring has sprung, and the weather is finally warm enough to open the windows - you've probably felt motivated to do some cleaning. (Or maybe not. If not, I don't blame you... cleaning is the worst.) But who says your spring cleaning needs to be limited to your home?

Presenting Malin + Goetz Detox Face Mask - our April #MASKOFTHEMONTH. Where to even begin with this miracle-worker?? First of all, this is one of the coolest masks I've ever tried, and despite its amazing foaming action, it's not gimmicky in the slightest. It really works.

The pleasantly lightly scented mask glides on as a smooth cream, and right before your eyes (and pores!) it transforms into a frothy foam, complete with a fun tingly sensation. What I like about it, is that you can really feel it working deep down into the pores, drawing the impurities out. Once you rinse it off, underneath you'll find baby-smooth, glowing skin.

I can't speak highly enough of this mask - it's the perfect remedy for when your skin is feeling blah, and in need of a pick-me-up. So give it a try, and let me know how it works for you! And as always, feel free to pass along your favorite skincare products - maybe they'll make their way into our May mask of the month!

Exactly How I Maintain My Beard

For my birthday week, I thought I'd spend some time focusing on a little skincare and GROOMING TLC. I'll be skipping town for a little R&R in palm springs, and will be sharing it with you all every step of the way! (Side note: I know that it's finally nice on the east coast...but is it as nice as palm springs? Doubt it. So be jealous of me...this is my moment, okay?)

in preparation for my time in the desert, I thought this gnarly beard needed a little TLC of its own. So Without further adieu - here is exactly what I do to maintain my beard.

Step One - Cleansefoliate. (In case you didn't figure it out, that's a portmanteau of cleanse and exfoliate. clever, right?) I like to use this clairsonic and my usual Kiehl's face cleanser. Being sure to really work this into the beard well, Then, rinse thoroughly and pat dry.

Step Two - Lubrication. Adding a couple drops of a pre-shave oil (like this one from L'Occitane) into my palms to warm it up, I smooth it through my beard and begin.

Step Three - TRIM. Personally, I Use a Wahl Trimmer, set to level 4, and I even out the length of my beard all over. I start by going with the grain (ie, down my face), then against (up). Once the hair is of an even length all over, I set the guard to level 3 and run it over my moustache and just below my bottom lip.

Step Four - The Neck. This is probably the most important - measuring two fingers width above my adam's apple, I make a cut, and use that to mark the high point of the underside of my beard. When looking up, it should resemble a rainbow-shaped arc. Follow that natural arc shape from one end of your jaw to the other.

Step Five - Final Details. Finishing with edge details, I use the razor (with no guard) to contour in under my cheekbones, the edges of my jawline, and the top line of my lip. After a good rinse and pat dry, Follow with a couple drops of lightly-scented beard oil, and a good finger comb to smooth it through, et voila!

Enjoy this photo of me wearing not a stitch of makeup. Yikes. (every now and then I like to give my skin a break. I figure shaving and makeup don't mix well anyway, so there you have it.)

Be sure to Check back later this week for more skincare and grooming tips - and to read about my trip to the desert!

Happy Monday, friends! I wanted to introduce you to a new feature we'll be doing every month here at MOGBLOG. Introducing #MASKOFTHEMONTH. Each month, I'm going to share with you my favorite face mask of-the-moment, dealing with a specific skin concern, and targeted to that time of year.

For March, we're in for a Doozy - a double #maskofthemonth! Coming out of winter and into spring, our skin can get pretty nasty. We have dullness and dryness, un-lovingly paired with oiliness and blemishes. (I'm using the royal "we" here... meaning, I. I have nasty skin in March. Anyway...)

Enter: Glossier. Recently, this cult beauty brand has been taking the world by storm - and with their gorgeous packaging and penchant for social media, how couldn't they? (Oh, and their masks work wonders, too!) Designed to be used together, or separately, the pair addresses any skin concern this transitional season can throw at you.

The Mega Greens Galaxy Pack, filled with green vegetables and natural clay, is billed as a "juice cleanse for the face". It clears pores and cleanses the skin from blemishes, without stripping it of moisture. Follow it with the Moisturizing Moon Mask  - a delicious, creamy moisturizer, that despite its richness, never feels heavy or oily. I mean, your skin literally eats it up. Like, its gone by the time to go to watch it off. Its witchcraft.

So, give these masks a try. I promise you won't regret it. Use them one at a time, or together. But really, there's no wrong way to do it. I'd love to hear about your Glossier experience in the comments below - or tip me off to your favorite face mask. Maybe it'll be featured as next month's #MASKOFTHEMONTH!

Skincare Review: Kiehl's

Good morning, everyone! How are you all adjusting to this week? I'm still getting into the swing of things, myself. And whenever I feel restless in a weary world, I turn to skincare. Recently, I found myself in desperate need to stock up on the basics... so I headed to Kiehl's.

Lucky for me, from now until March 23rd, Kiehl's is running a promotion: 4 Deluxe Samples for any $65 purchase. (Unlucky for me, my night cream alone costs $62...but thats a different story.)

Let me tell you. These samples are worth it. See below for a review on each, with links for purchase. And, as always, don't forget to Subscribe to #MOGBLOG - if you aren't yet, you'll want to. Trust me. Big announcement coming this week!

Powerful Strength Line Reducing Concentrate This stuff is the real deal. Loaded with 10.5% Vitamin C concentrate, you can actually feel it working on your skin. (Its a slight warming sensation, which I find pleasant. Just don't say I didn't warn you.)

Midnight Recovery Concentrate Let me take this time to note that I realize that most of the things on this list are anti-aging, but hey! I'm all about preventative, rather than reactive, skincare. Amirite?? Anyway. This serum is a sheer oil formula that smells heavenly and makes your skin feel like a dream.

Super Multi-Corrective Cream This rich, luxurious cream is actually what I use on my skin nightly. Its blend of ingredients is formulated to increase fullness, fight loss of elasticity, and reduce the appearance of fine lines. What's not to love?

Ultra Facial Cleanser Another product that I use on the daily. Just a really nice face cleanser - perfect if you have combination skin like me. Other cleansers leave me too oily or too dry, but this one is like Goldilocks - just right.

*BONUS* In-Flight Refreshing Facial Mist Okay, so this one wasn't a free sample, but I couldn't post a review on Kiehl's without writing about this. This is like the fountain of youth in a spray bottle. Designed to be a skin refresher mid-flight (which I've certainly used on that long cross-country flight home) I use it every day, throughout the day. Perfect when your skin is feeling dry, dull, oily, shiny, lackluster or just plain blah - basically, it'll cure what ails ya. It leaves your skin with a healthy, dewy finish. And, it smells incredible.

So thats it! Let me know if you get the chance to give any of these products a try. I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!
