How I Dress for a Photoshoot

Happy Humpday, everyone! So. I've been assisting on lots of editorial jobs this week - translation: I've been doing lots of running around this week.

When you're working on a photoshoot - the errands are endless. On set, you're fitting models, taping shoes, checking the monitor (and trying to steal as many free snacks from craft services as you can... Maybe that's just me. #foreverhungry) And of course, there's all the prep and post work too - needless to say, it's a lot.

I have a uniform for these kind of days - presenting my shoot day look. Starting with a hat (or a topknot) - because my hair just ain't what I'm tryna deal with on a long day. I always wear a button down shirt, because I like to be able to hook my garment clamps onto it. This baseball tee from american apparel is a good combination of casual (dressing up to a shoot is a no-no) and functional. Paired with some easy skinny jeans (from H&M) and my favorite Nike sneakers.

This outfit looks polished without trying too hard - and doesn't get in the way of whatever you may need to do. Like stick nipple pasties on a model in front of 20 people. (Actual things that happen on a shoot. Trust.)

Menswear Test Shoot

Earlier this week, Nicholas and I got together with Oscar - a friend of mine from my drama school days - for a menswear test shoot. When we were planning this shoot, we knew we wanted to do something bold and graphic, with strong shapes and angles, so we decided the Walt Disney Concert Hall was the perfect location.

For those not familiar with the Walt Disney Concert Hall, it was designed by architect Frank Gehry to resemble a ship with its sails at full mast. Its stainless steel panels reflect the California sun, and are one of the most recognizable landmarks in the heart of downtown LA.

We really enjoyed shooting this one - and as luck would have it, supermodel Jourdan Dunn was doing a shoot there at the same time. Great minds, huh? Check out our photos below. (Fashion credits at the end of photoset.)

Venice Beach Babe

Every now and then, something so ridiculously exciting happens, you can't wait to share it with the world. This is one of those times.

This week, myself, nick, and my dear friend, Casey Layne - yoga instructor, lululemon rep, blonde bombshell, and all-around babe - had the pleasure of working together on an exciting beach shoot. We wanted to do something that would show another side of her; something that marked a departure from her sunny, bubbly, adorable self.

So we went full on cool girl badass. Bye-bye yoga clothes, hello matching short suit. I shibori dyed this look by hand, starting with all white pieces. We even grunged up her hair with my custom blend sea salt spray.

Be sure to check back soon for a DIY on how we made this look come together!

Laundry Day

Hey kids! Hope your weeks are all off to a good start... I feel like so much has happened in the last 48 hours it couldn't possibly be Tuesday already!

Yesterday Nicholas and I had the ever-dreaded laundry day. Ugh. To be honest, the only thing I like about doing laundry is the vibey laundromat we go to here in LA. So, while waiting for our delicates and unmentionables (and about 500 pairs of calvin klein briefs) to tumble-dry, we had an impromptu photoshoot.

Don't you just love when inspiration strikes in the strangest places? Tell me about some of the unusual places you've had a shoot and send me a link to go check it out! I'd love to see.

PS - I know this isn't the most glamorous post on the planet, but tomorrow I've got some really cool stuff planned. Including the first-ever #MOGBLOGDIY Stay Tuned!
