DIY "Chombré" Shirt

For today's edition of our Summer Kickoff series, I'm sharing a super easy - and fun - DIY you can do today with supplies you already have on hand. The ombré trend is here to stay for the summer, and I'm gonna show you achieve that oh-so-cool look at home.

To start, gather your materials - either an old chambray shirt that needs a little sprucing up, or you can thrift one - like my $15 JCrew shirt I found at Crossroads here in LA. Then, make sure you have a bucket, some gloves (to protect your skin) and some regular ol' bleach.

First decide where you want your bleach to cover, and then wet your shirt with plain water. Next, fill your bucket with 2 parts hot water and 1 part bleach, and then lower your shirt into the solution, up to where you planned to cover. After that, let it sit for about an hour in a well-ventilated place.

When you come back, rinse the shirt in cool water, and then refill the bucket with a solution of 2 parts water and 1 part white vinegar. (This helps the bleaching process to stop.) Allow that to sit for about 10 minutes, and then rinse again. After that, just throw the shirt in the laundry, and enjoy your new look!

This look is perfect for the summer because it's a great way to incorporate the denim on denim trend, without it feeling heavy. It makes a great poolside cover up, and is perfect to layer on over a tee or tank when the sun goes down. I know I'll be getting a lot of use out of this. Let me know if you give it a try in the comments below - I'd love to see your handiwork in action! Check back tomorrow for a new video - featuring a Summer Cocktail Recipe you won't want to miss!
