Looks to Try: The Glitter Beard

Being that it's just 2 weeks til Christmas Day (WHAT?!) we are in full swing for party mode. Everyone and their brother has plans this weekend - office party, white elephant, secret santa, cookie exchange, you name it! So I figured what better time than the present to share with you a little holiday party outfit advice.

Surely by now you've heard of the genius that is The Gay Beards. If you haven't, allow me to introduce you - you can check out their hilarious youtube channel HERE. They are the queens who inspired this look with their iconic #GlitterBeard. Yes folks, that's right. Glitter. In my beard. What is more festive than that? Truly, I am hard-pressed to find an answer.

I'm wearing a David Beckham for H&M sweater in a festive red and charcoal color block motif, and paired it with a silver glitter beard (you know, to give off a Santa vibe.) There truly isn't much to say here, so I'll let the photos do the talking. Presenting, Glitterbeard: A Christmas Story for the Ages.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go find a way to remove this from my face. Merry Xmas, y'all! X

La Vie En Rose: DIY Rosewater Toner

Hey friends! By now you may have seen our #MOGiveaway - and if you haven't - click HERE to enter, by subscribing to our Youtube channel. This week, we're sharing with you La Vie En Rose. Every day, a new one my rose-colored picks - guaranteed to keep you tickled pink as we kick off the month of June!

Today, I'm sharing with you my super simple Rosewater Toner Spray. This stuff is amazing. Not only does it mattify your skin in these less-than-glam hot summer days, it also keeps your makeup in place. Oh, and it smells heavenly too. Sound too good to be true? It's not. Read on for how to make some of your very own!

To make this delicious concoction - simply combine 2 oz distilled water, 1.5 oz rosewater (find it in the ethnic food aisle of the grocery store), and .5 oz witch hazel. Give everything a nice stir, and pour into an atomizer bottle. Pro tip: leave it in the fridge for an even more refreshing spritz. I like to spray it on when I'm finished beating my mug for the day, after some time in the sun, or when I simply need a little pick-me-up.

So get out there and give this a try! I promise, you won't regret it. Who wouldn't want to smell like a delicious fresh bouquet in the heat? It's sure as hell nicer than smelling like a sweatball. Amirite, ladies?? Be sure to check back tomorrow for our next pick in the Vie en Rose week, here on MOG.

The Best Sunscreen for Your Face

Hey everyone! I hope your weeks are all off to a good start. Though doesn't it feel like it should be Thursday already? Isn't that always the case when you're counting down to a long weekend?? Only 3 days til Friday, y'all!

For part 2 in our summer kickoff series, I wanted to share with you my absolute favorite facial sunscreen. Now, if you've been living under a rock, or didn't already know, you should be wearing spf every day. But with the holiday weekend coming up, you're sure to spend a lot of time in the sun - and for many of us, this will be the first real sun exposure we've had in months! (Not those of us in LA, mind you. But I didn't want to make you jealous.)

Enter Kiehl's Superfluid Sunscreen. This little beauty packs an SPF of 50+ and feels silky smooth going onto your face. It's fast-absorbing, and doesn't leave that sticky, tacky feel that other sunscreens tend to do. I wear it daily, but put on a little more when I know I'm spending a day in the sun. Give it a try this weekend, and I know I'll make a believer out of you!

As always, check back every day this week for some new and exciting ways to start your summer off right, and we'll see you tomorrow with the next installment in our Summer Kickoff Series

#MASKOFTHEMONTH

Now that spring has sprung, and the weather is finally warm enough to open the windows - you've probably felt motivated to do some cleaning. (Or maybe not. If not, I don't blame you... cleaning is the worst.) But who says your spring cleaning needs to be limited to your home?

Presenting Malin + Goetz Detox Face Mask - our April #MASKOFTHEMONTH. Where to even begin with this miracle-worker?? First of all, this is one of the coolest masks I've ever tried, and despite its amazing foaming action, it's not gimmicky in the slightest. It really works.

The pleasantly lightly scented mask glides on as a smooth cream, and right before your eyes (and pores!) it transforms into a frothy foam, complete with a fun tingly sensation. What I like about it, is that you can really feel it working deep down into the pores, drawing the impurities out. Once you rinse it off, underneath you'll find baby-smooth, glowing skin.

I can't speak highly enough of this mask - it's the perfect remedy for when your skin is feeling blah, and in need of a pick-me-up. So give it a try, and let me know how it works for you! And as always, feel free to pass along your favorite skincare products - maybe they'll make their way into our May mask of the month!

Exactly How I Maintain My Beard

For my birthday week, I thought I'd spend some time focusing on a little skincare and GROOMING TLC. I'll be skipping town for a little R&R in palm springs, and will be sharing it with you all every step of the way! (Side note: I know that it's finally nice on the east coast...but is it as nice as palm springs? Doubt it. So be jealous of me...this is my moment, okay?)

in preparation for my time in the desert, I thought this gnarly beard needed a little TLC of its own. So Without further adieu - here is exactly what I do to maintain my beard.

Step One - Cleansefoliate. (In case you didn't figure it out, that's a portmanteau of cleanse and exfoliate. clever, right?) I like to use this clairsonic and my usual Kiehl's face cleanser. Being sure to really work this into the beard well, Then, rinse thoroughly and pat dry.

Step Two - Lubrication. Adding a couple drops of a pre-shave oil (like this one from L'Occitane) into my palms to warm it up, I smooth it through my beard and begin.

Step Three - TRIM. Personally, I Use a Wahl Trimmer, set to level 4, and I even out the length of my beard all over. I start by going with the grain (ie, down my face), then against (up). Once the hair is of an even length all over, I set the guard to level 3 and run it over my moustache and just below my bottom lip.

Step Four - The Neck. This is probably the most important - measuring two fingers width above my adam's apple, I make a cut, and use that to mark the high point of the underside of my beard. When looking up, it should resemble a rainbow-shaped arc. Follow that natural arc shape from one end of your jaw to the other.

Step Five - Final Details. Finishing with edge details, I use the razor (with no guard) to contour in under my cheekbones, the edges of my jawline, and the top line of my lip. After a good rinse and pat dry, Follow with a couple drops of lightly-scented beard oil, and a good finger comb to smooth it through, et voila!

Enjoy this photo of me wearing not a stitch of makeup. Yikes. (every now and then I like to give my skin a break. I figure shaving and makeup don't mix well anyway, so there you have it.)

Be sure to Check back later this week for more skincare and grooming tips - and to read about my trip to the desert!

#MASKOFTHEMONTH

Happy Monday, friends! I wanted to introduce you to a new feature we'll be doing every month here at MOGBLOG. Introducing #MASKOFTHEMONTH. Each month, I'm going to share with you my favorite face mask of-the-moment, dealing with a specific skin concern, and targeted to that time of year.

For March, we're in for a Doozy - a double #maskofthemonth! Coming out of winter and into spring, our skin can get pretty nasty. We have dullness and dryness, un-lovingly paired with oiliness and blemishes. (I'm using the royal "we" here... meaning, I. I have nasty skin in March. Anyway...)

Enter: Glossier. Recently, this cult beauty brand has been taking the world by storm - and with their gorgeous packaging and penchant for social media, how couldn't they? (Oh, and their masks work wonders, too!) Designed to be used together, or separately, the pair addresses any skin concern this transitional season can throw at you.

The Mega Greens Galaxy Pack, filled with green vegetables and natural clay, is billed as a "juice cleanse for the face". It clears pores and cleanses the skin from blemishes, without stripping it of moisture. Follow it with the Moisturizing Moon Mask  - a delicious, creamy moisturizer, that despite its richness, never feels heavy or oily. I mean, your skin literally eats it up. Like, its gone by the time to go to watch it off. Its witchcraft.

So, give these masks a try. I promise you won't regret it. Use them one at a time, or together. But really, there's no wrong way to do it. I'd love to hear about your Glossier experience in the comments below - or tip me off to your favorite face mask. Maybe it'll be featured as next month's #MASKOFTHEMONTH!

DIY Sea Salt Spray

So, its Sunday night. Where did the weekend go? Really. I'm starting the petition for a day between Sunday and Monday. Any takers?

But, maybe a fun (and easy!) DIY project is what you need to propel you into the week with a fresh attitude - and really cool hair. Presenting: DIY Sea Salt SprayThe best part is, you totally have all of this stuff at home already.

This stuff is amazing. Not kidding. You may remember Casey Layne's incredible mane from our Venice Beach Shoot? This stuff. For real. Check out the recipe below.

Step One. Gather your ingredients. Coconut Oil, Sea Salt, Leave-In Cream or Conditioner (I love this one from Kiehl's) and Water Soluble Pomade. (A Note about pomade - you may not have this laying around, but being a shorter-haired dude...i did. I love the formula of Layrite pomade, but if you don't have it at home, you could substitute a water soluble gel with some shine in it.)
Step Two. Combine 1 Tablespoon Coconut Oil, 2 or 3 teaspoons Sea Salt, 1/2 teaspoon Leave-in Cream, a dab of Pomade and 1 cup of HOT water.
Step Three. Mix! Mix! Mix! It helps to stir them with a whisk or a fork, and then put them in a container with a lid and Shake it for a minute or two.
Step Four. Decant into a spray bottle and enjoy your new sea salt spray!

That's all there is to it! Give this a try and watch the compliments roll in. Comment below and let me know how it works for you. And, be sure to Subscribe to #MOGBLOG for daily updates below!
