Looks to Try: The Glitter Beard

Being that it's just 2 weeks til Christmas Day (WHAT?!) we are in full swing for party mode. Everyone and their brother has plans this weekend - office party, white elephant, secret santa, cookie exchange, you name it! So I figured what better time than the present to share with you a little holiday party outfit advice.

Surely by now you've heard of the genius that is The Gay Beards. If you haven't, allow me to introduce you - you can check out their hilarious youtube channel HERE. They are the queens who inspired this look with their iconic #GlitterBeard. Yes folks, that's right. Glitter. In my beard. What is more festive than that? Truly, I am hard-pressed to find an answer.

I'm wearing a David Beckham for H&M sweater in a festive red and charcoal color block motif, and paired it with a silver glitter beard (you know, to give off a Santa vibe.) There truly isn't much to say here, so I'll let the photos do the talking. Presenting, Glitterbeard: A Christmas Story for the Ages.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go find a way to remove this from my face. Merry Xmas, y'all! X

Clarisonic Alpha Fit Launch

Hey Gang! I hope your weeks are all off to a great start. Mine has already been super busy, and it's only Tuesday - it has me reminiscing about last week. And no wonder, because last week I had the opportunity to go to the Clarisonic Alpha Fit Launch at Baxter Finley Barber Shop

Now, if you've been following along... you know I'm a fan of my Clarisonic Mia 2. I even wrote about its crucial role in my beard maintenance regimen here. But what's so exciting about the Alpha Fit launch, is that it's the brand's first product created exclusively for us fellas - especially of the bearded variety.

Here's Clarisonic founder (and former world-class AIDS research scientist) Dr. Robb, talking about the patented technology and process that went into their new handle-less design. The Alpha Fit has two easy to use settings - one for prepping to shave, and one for cleaning and softening your already existing beard.

I have to say, one of my favorite aspects of the Clarisonic technology, is that it is a seamless addition into your already existing skincare regimen, just continue to use the great products you already know and love. What's that you say? You want some suggestions for new Fall skincare?? Good thing Baxter of California has got us covered. (More on them later.)

Of course, another one of my favorite aspects of the Alpha Fit is the hashtag they created to promote the product: ITSYOURF-INGFACE. Gloriously spelled out here entirely made from Clarisonic brush heads. I mean. What more is there to say? Except - fellas, stop sneaking your girlfriend's (sister's/mom's/roommate's) Mia, and get your own Alpha Fit! Go ahead, I'll wait. You can thank me later. x

Exactly How I Maintain My Beard

For my birthday week, I thought I'd spend some time focusing on a little skincare and GROOMING TLC. I'll be skipping town for a little R&R in palm springs, and will be sharing it with you all every step of the way! (Side note: I know that it's finally nice on the east coast...but is it as nice as palm springs? Doubt it. So be jealous of me...this is my moment, okay?)

in preparation for my time in the desert, I thought this gnarly beard needed a little TLC of its own. So Without further adieu - here is exactly what I do to maintain my beard.

Step One - Cleansefoliate. (In case you didn't figure it out, that's a portmanteau of cleanse and exfoliate. clever, right?) I like to use this clairsonic and my usual Kiehl's face cleanser. Being sure to really work this into the beard well, Then, rinse thoroughly and pat dry.

Step Two - Lubrication. Adding a couple drops of a pre-shave oil (like this one from L'Occitane) into my palms to warm it up, I smooth it through my beard and begin.

Step Three - TRIM. Personally, I Use a Wahl Trimmer, set to level 4, and I even out the length of my beard all over. I start by going with the grain (ie, down my face), then against (up). Once the hair is of an even length all over, I set the guard to level 3 and run it over my moustache and just below my bottom lip.

Step Four - The Neck. This is probably the most important - measuring two fingers width above my adam's apple, I make a cut, and use that to mark the high point of the underside of my beard. When looking up, it should resemble a rainbow-shaped arc. Follow that natural arc shape from one end of your jaw to the other.

Step Five - Final Details. Finishing with edge details, I use the razor (with no guard) to contour in under my cheekbones, the edges of my jawline, and the top line of my lip. After a good rinse and pat dry, Follow with a couple drops of lightly-scented beard oil, and a good finger comb to smooth it through, et voila!

Enjoy this photo of me wearing not a stitch of makeup. Yikes. (every now and then I like to give my skin a break. I figure shaving and makeup don't mix well anyway, so there you have it.)

Be sure to Check back later this week for more skincare and grooming tips - and to read about my trip to the desert!
