What I'm Reading Now

Hi Everyone! I missed you this weekend, did you miss me? I had such a great visit with my east coast friends that it's been tough getting back into the swing of things without them here. I needed a distraction. No better time to start in on a new book - I'm Special! and other lies we tell ourselves. by Ryan O'Connell.

Currently a writer for MTV's Awkward, I have been reading Ryan's work since he started writing short, quippy articles for Thought Catalog and Vice. His writing feels relatable and personal, like sharing a heart-to-heart with a good friend. His voice and style have been a huge inspiration to me in writing for #MOG. Which is why it was such a treat to meet him last week.

Lucky for me, I live just around the corner from BookSoup, one of LAs premiere book sellers. I saw that they would be having a book launch event for Ryan last week, and knew I had to go. To my delight, not only was he funny and charming and relatable, he was every bit as authentic and real as his writing voice made him to be. I spoke with him one-on-one afterwards, and he signed my copy of his book.

So, if you find yourself in need of a relatable, touching, and funny read - do me and yourself a favor and check out this book. Soon to be a TV series, developed by Big Bang Theory's Jim Parsons, I might add. Don't you wanna be one of those annoying people that say "Well, I read the book first..." Trust me. You won't be disappointed. Happy reading! X
