Thirsty Thursday: Bloody Marys with Candied Bacon

Happy Thirsty Thursday, everyone! This week, I thought I'd try my hand with the classic brunch cocktail - the Bloody Mary. Bright, spicy, and fresh, what makes it so great is that it hits so many different parts of the palette. And for that reason, shouldn't be enjoyed for brunch alone! Personally, I could drink a bloody at any hour of the day.

Here's a basic recipe that you can alter to suit to your tastes. It can be adapted to be made with Vodka, Tequila or Gin - I used Tito's Vodka here. Simply fill your cocktail shaker with Ice, 3 oz Booze and 6 oz Tomato Juice. Then, add your sauces and seasonings - a hearty dash of worcestershire, a dollop of horseradish, a squeeze of lemon and a few cracks of pepper. Give everything a really good shake, and strain into a tall glass.

Now comes the fun part - the garnish. Of course there's the traditional celery stalk, but there's also pickles, carrots, a skewer of olives, even chilled shrimp! I used the delicious Maple Candied Bacon recipe from our friends over at The Clever Carrot. Super easy and so, so worth it. Yum.

Try this recipe out at your next brunch - and be sure to check back Mother's Day Sunday for a special cocktail for Mom!
